At least one of the clashing courses is usually elective and generally timetable developing process cannot, and does not attempt to, avoid all clashes between all electives as the enroloment details of students taking any particular elective change from semester to semester and from year to year. The following procedure is recommended for lecturers to resolve any clashes  during the first week of semester.
  1. Before your first lecture: mark all off your class sessions including lectures, tutorials and practicals as well as the times during which you are not available for rescheduled classes in the table below.
  2. During your first lecture: ask students if they have any clashes or other well justified class rescheduling requests. If they do then:
    • Ask if they are enroled in a program offered by M & C. If not then they need to report their problems to their faculty/department t/table co-ordinator before they can request help from us.
    • Identify and mark clearly in the table the clashing sessions. Compile a detailed list of classes your class clashes with: include class codes and clashing times.
    • Upon consulting with students cross out any time slots among those still remaining in the table which are not suitable for rescheduling the session in question.
    • Consult students and identify the range of most-least desirable rescheduling options.
  3. After your first lecture: return this table to your t/table co-ordinator and make an appointment with him/her to see whether the university resources are available for the requested time slots and, if not, to discuss other options. Your personal presence in the M&C t/table coordinator's office will normally be required.
