Abstract
In this article the impact of computers and the Internet on mathematics
is discussed. It is argued that this influence will be considerable
and will lead to the commercialization of the tools for producing and teaching
mathematics. Some simple examples are presented to illustrate the possible
dangers that such commercial influence might have while also illustrating
possible benefits. Some speculation on the fact that computers deal
only with discrete entities is advanced.
