An experience of teaching and learning in the cloud

iconAbstract:
In a physical class-room it is sometimes handy to walk from student to student, looking at the written work of students, assisting each student in a different way.

Now we can do that with our online students, if their work is "in the cloud".

Recent software development tools, like Google Web Toolkit and SVG enable us to develop software which runs in a browser, producing and managing documents in the cloud, which has virtually all the functionality we expect of a program written for and running on a standalone computer. The documents being on an Internet server can then be used to advantage.

When the student's documents are in the cloud, the teacher, groups of students can share work, compare documents, and learn from each other, just like being in physical contact.

This seminar will describe some experience with software for network analysis and design, the netml system, which can and has be used in this way.
