Welcome to the Forms Research Group's Home Page

The recently formed Forms Research Group brings together departmental computing lecturers with diverse research interests (networks, programming languages, databases, and security) to work on an exciting new application of web technology.

Manifesto based on key concepts:

  • Liberated data capture: Let individuals in organizations easily create their own web forms to capture data;
  • Liberated data use: Once the data has been captured, allow anyone appropriate to re-use it easily;
  • Public Schema: Make the captured data's collective schema, managed by the Forms System, publicly accessible for both (appropriate) reading and writing;
  • Dynamic Rules: Let users mandate rules that regulate access to data stored in the system to set security levels and build trust among (or within) organizations;
  • Dynamic Work Flow: Let the system dynamically determine work flow processes from the collection of forms submitted by users;
  • Audit Trails: Let the system maintain comprehensive and accessible audit trails to enhance transparancy and accountability;
  • Data and Forms Validation: Let the system validate all submitted data and forms to maintain overall integrity;
  • Seamless Schema Integration: Allow departments or organizations to integrate (parts of) their public schemas to foster cooperation and create open communication;
  • Semantic Web: Enable a local instance of the Semantic Web to become reality!
Prototype A prototype for this new type of Forms application has already been implemented and is available for testing. Please visit the FormsFree prototype page.
